Danja Vasiliev is a critical engineer born in Saint Petersburg who lives and works in Berlin. His approach examines systems and networks through anti-disciplinary experimentation with hardware and software. In 2009, together with Gordan Savičić, Julian Oliver, and Bengt Sjölén, Danja founded Studio Weise7 in Neukölln, Berlin, with Sarah Grant joining the studio in 2015. Under the banner of Critical Engineering and Studio Weise7, Danja conducts public workshops and talks. He regularly teaches courses on network insecurity, software/OS modification, hardware re-engineering, digital forensics, and other technology-related subjects. He is also the co-author of The Critical Engineering Manifesto (2011).
With over two decades of experience, Danja has participated in computer technology events, media art exhibitions, and seminars worldwide. He has received numerous awards and mentions at Ars Electronica, Japan Media Art Festival, and transmediale. Additionally, he has collaborated with many leading media organisations.
