Despite potential solutions for a less dystopian tomorrow, profit-seeking algorithmic systems exploit political drama instead of encouraging meaningful action, contributing to distraction rather than engagement. Daily hype about generative text and image tools quickly becomes the latest sales pitch, while stock prices surge, and networks and platforms perpetuate never ending conspiracies and dread. Despite this, dependencies and attachments to these networks and platforms and their foreboding narratives persist. Recognising that the never-ending doom renders us passive spectators, transmediale x Beta residency welcomes new or ongoing projects that question what kind of politics and effects emerge from this dependency. Do illogical, irrational, or unusable politics emerge? How can we detach from the narratives of crises and the worlds they build?",

"text": "The call is open to artists working with digital technology from/based in Germany, and from/based in Ireland. The two-month hybrid residency will take place online, in Dublin and Berlin between October and November. Accepted candidates are required to use the residency in its full length within this timeframe. \n\nOnline: October 2–15 \nDublin: October 16–November 5 \nBerlin: November 6–26 \n\nEach resident will be provided with a fee of €4,000, a production budget of €1,500, and travel and accommodation to Berlin and Dublin. Selected residents will present their project during Beta festival in Dublin (November) and transmediale festival in Berlin (February). \n\nIn Dublin, residents will have access to a shared working space at The Digital Hub/Beta Festival in Dublin. In Berlin, the residency takes place at transmediale studio, a shared working space with the capacity to produce small scale works, presentations, and events. Residents will have access to spaces for fabrication and production where necessary. During the residency, residents will engage with both the festival's artistic directors and curatorial teams.",
