Exploring the theme of a model, a map, a fiction, the festival’s film night brings two filmmakers together to explore questions of scale. Forming images through ‘seeing’ by other means, Simon Ripoll-Hurier and Solveig Qu Suess create films from reflections - mapping, visualising, prediction, memories and signals - and question the political and visual realities they create. In The Signal Line Simon Ripoll-Hurier explores a CIA programme on psychic vision and extrasensory perception that was used to collect intelligence on targets deep within the Soviet state. Making an image in an absence of information, Solveig Qu Suess’ Little Grass attempts to construct a personal narrative through the limitations of a confidentiality agreement to a powerful state. A conversation between Simon Ripoll-Hurier and transmediale’s film curator Ben Evans James will take place prior to the screening.
